Feast of St. Joseph the Worker
I’ve only been Catholic for 4 years so I am still catching on to some of this stuff. As usual, the news cycle has been mentioning that it’s May Day, the day when all the socialists and commies celebrate the vast successes of their economic systems around the world (/sarcasm) with marches and work stoppages. I was bemused to note that this was also the Feast of St Joseph the Worker. But then today, listening to EWTN, someone was explaining that the reason that this is the right day for this feast is to correct the error of communism and socialism and their ideal of the “worker,” as St. Joseph was our true example of a worker. We know he was a carpenter, and we figure logically that he must have taught Jesus a great deal in the time he raised Jesus. He worked to support his family, and he wasn’t into uprising and overthrowing his government as “workers” are in socialist and communist ideals.
One person did pose the question – Joseph was a carpenter – he worked with heavy tools and surely one of them came down on his thumb once or twice. Do you think he slipped up like you or I would and utter something that you really wouldn’t want the Son of God to hear?
