Anti-Catholic editorial

March 26th, 2007 by Chris

Controversies like married priests and gay marriage are not the only reasons the Roman Catholic Church is losing influence in the United States.

On Tuesday, Pope Benedict XVI issued a new document rejecting calls to let divorced Catholics who remarry receive Communion.

He also pushed again for parts of the Mass to be celebrated in Latin.

The good news is that the general public can comment on this editorial, and most of the comments are in support of the Church.

Divorced Catholics who remarry with the blessing of the Church (the annulment process) are allowed to receive communion. I wish people who write about the Church would at least take the time to find out the exact contours of Church teaching.

I see a thinly veiled threat at the end of the editorial, “you want our money for your charities, don’t give me any of your moral demands”. The editorial was obviously written by someone out of touch with the youth of our Church. Colleen Carroll Campbell’s book, “The New Faithful” takes great care to explain that today’s youth want orthodoxy in all three religious traditions, especially Catholic.
